Philosopher of Raisina- Dr. Zakir Hussain Memorial Lectures is a tribute to the much-celebrated educationist and former President of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain. The legal classic by Dr. Lokendra Malik and Miss Shabeena Anjum was recently launched at the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi, on 22nd February, 2016.
The event was graced by legal luminaries renowned and respected for their legal acumen. Justice J. Chelameswar, Judge, Supreme Court of India, was the Hon'ble Chief Guest of the event, and Senior Advocates of Supreme Court of India, Mr. P.P. Rao and Mr. Salman Khurshid, and Chancellor of Central University of Haryana, Mr. M.P. Singh were the Guests of Honour.
The book contains a number of lectures delivered by eminent scholars like Prof. Asis Dutta, Prof. Upendra Baxi, Mr. Fali S. Nariman, Mr. Arun Shourie, Prof. Theodore P. Wright, Dr. David J. Mathews, etc. in the honour of this great human being to keep the memory of Dr. Zakir Hussain alive in a meaningful way and to introduce him to the current generation. A tribute by his daughter, Saeeda Khursheed and an erudite foreword by Mr. Salman Khurshid, has added great value to the book.
Mr. Lokendra Malik, one of the editors of the book, acknowledged his thanks and extended a warm welcome to the guests, "... this book is our sincere tribute to one of the most outstanding sons of Bharat Mata, Late Dr. Zakir Hussain... we are extremely grateful to the publishers, Eastern Book Company, we are extremely grateful to our senior, Salman Khurshid sahab who is extremely generous... with these words I welcome you all..."
Mr. Salman Khurshid talked about his grandfather, Lt. Zakir Hussain's association with Germany, Jamia Millia Islamia and Hyderabad, and also about the current Judicial system. He reminisced about his association with Supreme Court CasesTM and how much the publishing industry has developed, "... this really really wonderful book that shows how Indian publishing world has come of its own."
He was thankful to Justice J. Chelameswar for attending the event, "... I feel extremely honoured that someone like Justice Chelameswar is here."
The book was released by Justice J. Chelameswar. As a gesture of honour, the first copy of the book was presented to Mr. Fali S. Nariman, Senior Advocate of Supreme Court of India by the Hon'ble Justice.
Mr. P.P. Rao, a foremost Constitutional expert and Padma Bhushan award recipient, in his special address appreciated the work and very eloquently talked about the Late President, "... glad to associate myself with today's celebration of the life and achievements of Dr. Zakir Hussain... Justice J. Chelameswar in his keynote address spoke of the visions of great people and also related some anecdotes from his personal life, "... On an occasion like this when a book is being published in memory of a former President of India, a distinguished scholar and a man who is respected not because of office, but because of his other accomplishments, is certainly an occasion for sitting back and considering what best can we do to improve the future of this country."
