Sharma, Former Member, Law Commission of India, Mr. Sidharth Luthra, Former Additional Solicitor General of India and Prof. (Dr.) K.P.S. Mahalwar, Chair Professor, NLU, Delhi.
This splendid work discusses in detail the issue of climate change and gives an overview of challenges and possibilities in controlling these changes.
Justice A.K. Sikri complimented the efforts of Prof. Usha Tandon for bringing about such an important publication, "... It is an enthusiastic celebration of scholarly works... a unique compilation ... It features their perspectives on climate change and lays down an overview of challenges and possibilities in combating these changes. This book will enrich millions of readers with the world view of climate change which in turn would help in mitigating these changes."
He also talked about the law and policy regarding climate change and their governance or lack thereof, "... the magnitude of today’s challenges demand that we use existing laws in re-imagined ways to shape environmentally responsible governmental, industry, and individual behavior. Today’s challenges also demand that we think of environmental law in fresh ways and look beyond the traditional statutory canons of the field. We need to bring about ethical conviction in the sense that law must service the ends we seek in mitigation of climate change. Law can embrace any challenge, even the most climatic ones. The onus is on us to ask whether the old laws must give way in light of today’s truths, whether they can be reemployed in previously unimagined ways, and whether we can reach beyond the bounds of our craft to make law relevant to broader social, political, and environmental challenges."
Mr. Mohan Parasaran congratulated the editor for undertaking this painstaking job, "This book will certainly go a long way in helping readers understand the various problems posed by climate change in different parts of the world, how they are being tackled and what remains to be done."
